The standard finish looks rather like the standard finish on original-equipment flares, and for good reason: OEM flares are made of the same ABS plastic. The stainless steel rivets don't actually go through the fender, so there is no need to drill holes that can cause potential corrosion issues. If black doesn't look right on your truck, you can just prep and paint them as if they were any other body panel on your truck. With a rubber gasket to isolate the flare from your fender, there's no paint damage or rattling, and the mounting hardware uses holes already present in your fender well to attach the flares, using the simplest of tools. You can add these flares to your truck to upgrade from your standard OEM flares, replace a damaged or missing flare, or add flares to a truck that never had them before.
